UK in the UK

Our beloved Kentucky Wildcats are playing the University of Michigan in London England on Dec 4. This game was initially scheduled for 2020, but the pandemic thwarted those travel plans. We don’t need a reason to have some delicious cocktails, but we love the idea of some classic British cocktails to celebrate this epic game!

Our first cocktail is our 3 Herb Gracious Gimlet. The drink was created more than 100 years ago when the British navy began taking lime juice with their gin in order to prevent scurvy. The cocktail has a bit of a murky past, including multiple stories about its naming. One is that the naval doctor who treated the sailors was named Rear-Admiral Sir Thomas Desmond Gimlette. The other story is that it was named after the hand tool – a gimlet, which was used to bore into barrels of spirits on Navy ships. Whatever the real story is, we’re just glad they developed it, and we are especially glad to serve it at our tables.

3HGG Gimlet

2 oz Barrel aged gin or gin of choice
.75 oz 3 Herb Gracious Grapefruit syrup
.5 oz Fresh grapefruit juice
.5 oz Fresh lime juice

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled coupe glass. Fresh juices are essential to this cocktail. No plastic limes filled with citric acid, please.

Our next cocktail is am Espresso Martini. This smooth martini came from the brilliant mind of London mixologist Dick Bradsell at Fred’s Club in London. Rumor has it that a super model cam to the bar and asked for something to “Wake her up and f*ck her up”. Thus the Espresso Martini was born.  Our 7 Syrup added to this cocktail is just the right amount of spice to compliment the richness of the espresso. If you do not have freshly brewed espresso on hand, cold brew concentrate will also work.

Espresso Martini

2 ounces vodka
0.5 oz coffee liqueur
0.5 oz 7 Syrup
1 oz espresso, freshly brewed (or cold brew concentrate)
Coffee beans for garnish

Chill a martini or coupe glass as you mix this cocktail. Add vodka, coffee liqueur & espresso to a shaker with ice and shake until very cold. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with 3 coffee beans, signifying health, wealth, and happiness.

We are wishing a big win for our cats this weekend!! The BBN loves a good ball game…and a good cocktail!
