Bourbon Heritage month

Bourbon Heritage Month, Day 15 – The Kentucky Mule

Kentucky Mule

Mules are hands down one of the most popular cocktails today. In fact, I imagine that you could add any spirit or flavor to a mule and it would sell like hotcakes. The funny thing is that the mule is a totally fabricated drink created to move a back stock of ginger beer at the Cock ‘n Bull bar in Los Angeles in 1941. Even the iconic copper cup was part of the marketing ploy to make the drink stand out from other cocktails. Regardless of this fact, we are always more than happy to enjoy a mule or two on any given evening.

Knob Creek is our bourbon of choice for this cocktail. We like how the oak in this bourbon grounds the herbal notes of the 3 Herb Gracious Grapefruit mixer.

2 oz Knob Creek Bourbon
½ oz Fresh lime juice
¾ oz Make & Muddle 3 Herb Gracious Grapefruit Cocktail Mixer Syrup
Can of Ginger Beer
Sprig of fresh thyme or lime wedge for garnish

In a ceramic glass or copper mug with ice, add bourbon or vodka, fresh lime juice, 3 Herb Gracious Grapefruit Mixer and stir. Add ginger beer and stir to combine all ingredients. Top with a wedge of lime and sprig of thyme.
