The Bishop’s Gambit
When our 7 Syrup recipe was in its infancy five years ago, it started as a pumpkin spice liqueur. This cocktail was what I created when I was headed to Halloween at my sister’s house and wanted all the fall flavors and something seasonal. The liqueur ended up being not quite right but it did the job that Halloween. We perfected that 7 Syrup by removing the spirit and adding 3 sugars to the mix. #nirvana achieved.
Fast forward a year year when we were designing a new fall cocktail menu. We had a proprietor who wanted a pumpkin cocktail so this one came out of the vault. We reworked this cocktail to incorporate more vanilla by adding some vanilla vodka to the mix. Don’t judge. There is a place for flavored spirits on every bar, y’all. This is the cocktail that you want when you visit the apple orchard/pumpkin patch. This is the cocktail you want when you are planting mums and carving a jack-o-lantern. This is the cocktail you want by the bonfire with friends after a chili cook off. Don’t fight it, y’all. You know you want that pumpkin spice in your life. #fallelujah
Our bourbon of choice for this cocktail is Town Branch Bourbon. This smooth bourbon with notes of toffee and brown sugar is easy like Sunday morning and loves the vanilla vodka going on in this cocktail.
